			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hi Folks. Well here I am again. Sorry I haven’t been very conscientious on the blog, but stuff actually is happening. I got some canvas primed, and in a week or so I should have a new painting for you.<br />
I actually sold a painting in April; Expression 552 was sold to collector with extraordinarily good taste. I’ve usually got at least 12 paintings listed on eBay at any time, so be sure to have a look. My id on eBay; surprisingly enough; is “Rodzart”. </p>
<p>By the way folks, the $75K for everything deal is still going. You can have my entire body of work, from my first sketchbook to now, for a mere 75 grand.  So, if you’ve got the dough, I’ve got the show.  And, as you’ll see soon, I need the moola!</p>
<p>I guess most regular readers know that something has been happening in my life, so I guess it’s probably time to give everyone the scoop on what’s been going on. So here goes.</p>
<p>Everyone; I guess by now; knows I can get a bit melancholy at times. I suppose I could take drugs for this, but when you think about it, my screwy personality is what makes me me, and to be perfectly honest, I like me, dark periods and all. I don’t really feel the need to take a pill for all of life’s tribulations.</p>
<p>I have to admit though, this last dark time was pretty bad, and it hit rock bottom about a year ago, in May 2011. For several years prior to this, I couldn&#8217;t find a job, my paintings weren&#8217;t selling, I couldn&#8217;t get a gallery to give me the time of day, my bank account had hit 0, and to top it all off my health was going to hell. It had reached a point, last May, that I couldn&#8217;t even walk 25 yards without having some pretty massive chest pain. Now, all this time, I knew how sick I was, but honestly, I didn’t care. Life really didn’t hold much purpose for me.</p>
<p>During a routine office visit with my cardiologist, he saw what shape I was in, and immediately sent me to the hospital. So, on May 11, 2011, I went in to Tampa General Hospital for bypass surgery. Well, on the day of surgery I reported to pre-op at the appropriate time, and while they were prepping me for surgery, I had &#8220;the big one&#8221;, a heart attack that would have killed me, had I not been in the hospital.  I still think of 5-11-11 as “the day I died”. </p>
<p>While the nurses and techs were working to get me into surgery, I honestly thought that I was dying, and truthfully, I welcomed it. I do remember thinking, &#8216;well if I die today, maybe my paintings will finally sell&#8217;. And then I thought of my wives and family, and wished that I&#8217;d been a better father. Then, as my consciousness drifted away, in what could have been my last thought in this life; I thought of a girl from the Philippines I&#8217;d known almost a year before. I had been very fond of her, but then we’d lost contact. I tried to find her for a while and then gave up, thinking that I’d never hear from her again. So I was a bit surprised myself that while I lay dying (I thought) my last thought was “I love you Annalyn”.</p>
<p>Well, thanks to a great effort by my Cardiologist Dr. Dany Sayad, and a tremendous Surgeon Dr. Chritiano Caldera, I survived the big one, and a quadruple bypass operation.<br />
Three weeks later, I walked; albeit slowly; out of Tampa General. I was still alive, I guess, but inside I still was just waiting to die. If I’d had that heart attack even two hours earlier I would have died. So I was thoroughly mystified as to what karma had given me my life back, and why, since I didn’t really want it.</p>
<p>I went back home, and did all the usual recovery stuff, although my recovery from this one was a lot slower than with my previous bypass, which I’d recovered from extremely quickly.  One day bled into another and I returned to my “not dead” mode of life. I was alive, but not really living. There was still no purpose to me being alive, my paintings still weren’t selling, I still didn’t have a job, and my bank account was now less than zero. </p>
<p>So, I kept going day after day, going through the motions of life, and doing what was expected of me. Every now and then I thought of maybe just blowing my brains out, and I actually had planned out a really elegant seppuku where I’d disembowel myself with a chef knife.  I thought that would be a cool and classy way for me to go. But, in the end, I chose to keep on going and to follow my karma to wherever it was taking me.</p>
<p>Then in early July, 2011 something happened that changed my life. The girl who was my dying thought, the girl I though I’d lost forever, found me.   From that moment on, instead of looking at years of pointless routine until I could die, I actually had a life again. Annalyn came back into my life and brought me hope, and joy and yes, love. All the things I thought I would never have again. </p>
<p>What followed has been a long distance relationship, romance, and courtship. Today, I am proud and happy to say that Annalyn is officially my Fiancée, my Lady and my life. As soon as we can arrange a K1 visa for her, I intend to bring her home and make her my wife, and spend the rest of my life trying to be worthy of her.</p>
<p>It seems like I’m rewinding my life about 30 years, and I have a chance to do it all again. Why I am getting this do-over on life is beyond me, but I intend to do the very best that I can with this opportunity.  I’m going to be the best husband that I can, and if I get a chance to be a father again, I mean to be a vastly better Dad than I’ve been to my first 4 children.  I did a lousy job for them, and I hope they can forgive me.</p>
<p>A lot can change in a year. 12 months ago, I thought that my life was over and I was waiting to welcome death. Today I have a wonderful Fiancée, a job, my bank account is greater than zero; (though not by much); and I’m even trying to restart my IT career. I have joy in my life and sometimes I actually even feel happy.  </p>
<p>So folks, that’s the situation in my life right now. Will this story end in “and they lived happily ever after”? Who can say, all I know is that I’m going to do my very best to make this story have a happy ending. One thing I do know though is that I’m proud and happy to stand before the whole world and say “I love you Annalyn Dela Pena”!</p>

<p>I do want to remind everyone that the &#8220;buy it all&#8221; deal is still very much available. I&#8217;m offering my entire body of work, that&#8217;s every single piece that is still in my possession in one lot for $75,000.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>What&#8217;s shakin&#8217; at Rodzart on 3-7-2012</p>
<p>Well first of all, surprise! I didn&#8217;t drop dead nor was I kidnapped by aliens. As most who know me well can say, I sometimes get a bit melancholy, sometimes longer than others.  This time, I&#8217;m afraid was a long one.</p>
<p>But, this time with the help of a very wonderful lady, I&#8217;m starting to bounce back. Now, in order to get things going again I need to make some dough, I&#8217;ll explain why in detail in a later post. All I&#8217;ll say about it now is Mahal Kita Mako!</p>
<p>So, anyway, I&#8217;m offering my entire body of work, that is still in my possession, for sale in one lot for $75,000. Yep, almost 300 paintings, every ACEO, drawing and sketchbook, the whole magilla for 75K.</p>
<p>Yeah, that&#8217;s a lot of money, but, if history looks at my work the way I think it will, this stuff will be worth millions someday. So, if you&#8217;ve got that kind of money, roll the dice and take a gamble on me.</p>
<p>Not to worry, I&#8217;ll paint more, but if someone buys all my current stuff, everything I paint from now on will be that much more valuable. So if you&#8217;re interested, drop me a line&#8230; rod@rodzart.com and we&#8217;ll talk.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>What&#8217;s shakin’ at Rodzart 12-10-2010</p>
<p>Hi Folks.  Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a good week. For us here at Rodzart the week could have gone better, but it’s almost over now, so we’ll be concentrating on getting next week off with a bang.</p>
<p>Sadly we didn’t finish anything this week. It’s been way to cold to be in the studio, and I can’t find our #^%$@ing heater, so we had to miss a few days work.<br />
However we did get the “Christmas” painting photo’d and uploaded. I did something a little more “Christmasy” this year.</p>
<p>Here is our Christmas 2010 painting <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10093t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Christmas 2010"><br />”Christmas 2010”. This is a 16 X 20 acrylic on canvas painting. </p>
<p>Remember I’ve got a ton of stuff on eBay and also on ArtByUs, so I sure hope you’ll have a look at it.</p>
<p>While we’re on the subject, I have to point out that I really dislike having to get commercial about this stuff. But, in order for me to keep painting, I have to sell something once in a while. It’s really as simple as that! I won’t be doing much painting if I end up living on the street, so how about buying a print or a painting and help me pay the mortgage.</p>
<p>If you happen to be in the Brandon area, I’ve got six new paintings hanging in “The Art of Hair” salon at 10963 Causeway Blvd., in Brandon. So, I hope you’ll drop by and check them out, and maybe get some great hair styling while you’re them.</p>

<p>Hi Folks.  Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a good week. I’m certainly looking forward to having my first unscrewed-up weekend in a long while.</p>
<p>We actually don’t have anything ready to photograph this week, but we do have a couple that are pretty close, including this year’s Christmas painting. You’ll just have to be patient until next week to see it though. One of those is an oil on canvas color field work. It seems the paint in taking an inordinate time to dry, even for oil, but I’ll get it photo’d for you as soon as I can.</p>
<p>As I mentioned last week I have loaded a bunch of auctions onto eBay, so I hope you’ll take a look at them. The link is down toward the bottom of the blog. I also have over 60 auctions going on ArtByUs right now, so that’s a nice place to look for Christmas gifts too.</p>
<p>I was thinking about adding an anti-TSA rant this week, but there are plenty of far more articulate people than me doing that right now. I will however mention that since airports were exempted from the constitution, and that was a quite a while back, I have avoided flying just as much as I can. Up until lately most folks thought I was just being a cranky, uncooperative old fart, but it looks like now people are beginning to see what I’ve been talking about.</p>
<p>The thing to remember is simply this: no government has ever had any power which it did not abuse. It’s just that simple. That’s why some of the wisest men who ever lived sought to limit the power of government when they wrote our constitution. </p>
<p>I don’t know how anyone else feels, but for myself, I’m more afraid of the US Government than I am any terrorists.</p>
<p>Here’s a little quote from Patrick Henry to some up how I feel about this.<br />
&#8220;Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God!<br />
I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!&#8221;</p>
<p>As I’m sure most everyone knows, there is a cholera epidemic going on in Haiti. One of the groups fighting that disease is Doctors without borders, one of my most respected charities. There aren’t the doctors most of us know, who won’t lift a finger to help unless they’re being paid. Doctors without borders are a dedicated group of REAL doctors who put medicine before profit, which is why I support them. So maybe this week, how about passing up that jumbo pizza or frappachino, and instead send that money to help Doctors without borders fight for humanity. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>What&#8217;s shakin’ at Rodzart 10-15-2010</p>
<p>Hi Folks.  Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a good week and like me is looking forward to a great weekend. Things have been rather hectic this week still, but we did manage to finish three new paintings for you this week. </p>
<p>The first new painting for this week is <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10090t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Expression 1090"><br />”Expression 1090”. This is a 24 X 36 oil on canvas painting. </p>
<p>Next is <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10091t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Expression 1091"><br />”Expression 1091”.  This one is a 14 X 20 line painting on watercolor paper. I rather like the way the music dances on this painting. The colors seem to be having a good time together.</p>
<p>Last for this week is <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10092t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Expression 1092"><br />”Expression 1092”.  A 7 X 10 acrylic on watercolor paper, I really like the effects I created in this painting. Its one of those pieces that you have to look at for a moment or two, but then all kinds of neat things begin to appear in your head. I hope you like it.</p>
<p>Ya know, I used to use Myspace a lot. It was a good place to communicate with people, and particularly other painters. But over the last year or so, Myspace<br />
has become so clogged with advertising, and sometimes really obnoxious advertising, that it’s almost unusable. At this point I log onto Myspace only long enough to check for messages, and then I get out. It’s just not worth the effort to wade through all the spam. My social media emphasis these days is with Facebook or twitter, so if ya see me there feel free to give me a shout.</p>
<p>Christmas time is coming! It’s be here before you know it, so ya better start thinking about which paintings you want to give as gifts so I can get them to you on time. <img src='http://rodzart.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';-)' class='wp-smiley' />  Sorry, I had to do that. Anyway, art does make a great gift; it rarely looses value, and every time the recipient looks at it, he/she will think of you. I’m going to be loading more auctions onto ArtByUs and eBay this weekend, so if you need ideas, look no further.</p>

<p>Hi Folks.  Happy Friday! Surprise! It really is Friday this time.<br />
If you’re familiar with the term FUBAR; well that’s about what my life has been like the past month or so. But, I’m hoping to get things back to normal for next week. I hope. Anyway, I’ve got a couple of new paintings for you this week.</p>
<p>The first new painting for this week is <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10088t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Expression 1088"><br />”Expression 1088”. This is another oil painting on watercolor paper. </p>
<p>Next is <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10089t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Expression 1089"><br />”Expression 1089”.  This one is a minimalist line painting on a gray background. One of the hardest things in painting is knowing when to quit, but I think I quit at the right time on this one.</p>
<p>I’m going to hold off on ranting until next week, since I really want to get my Friday blog actually out on a Friday. I appreciate your patience.</p>

<p>Hi Folks.  Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a good week and is looking forward to a great weekend. We have four new paintings for you this week.<br />
We also have two more which weren’t quite dry enough to photograph, so you’ll get to see those next week.</p>
<p>Oddly enough, all the new paintings for this week are 7 X 10 acrylic on watercolor paper. There’s an oil on canvas, and an oil on paper drying still.</p>
<p>The first new painting for this week is <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10084t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Expression 1084"><br />”Expression 1084”. </p>
<p>Next is <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10085t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Expression 1085"><br />”Expression 1085”. </p>
<p>Then we have <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10086t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Expression 1086"><br />”Expression 1086”. </p>
<p>The final new painting for this week is <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10087t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Composition 1087"><br />”Composition 1087”. This piece is a bit of a departure from my usual work. The weather was really great this week and I guess it put me into a weird mood. This is another one of those paintings that you don’t necessarily “get”, but they’re fun and strangely relaxing to look at.</p>
<p>October is my favorite time of year. When I was growing up in Ohio, October would mark the end of the hot summer weather and bring about some beautifully cool and clear days. </p>
<p>In Alaska (Juneau, the real Alaska), October was a bit wet, but still the temperatures would be beautifully cool, and sometimes we’d have a nice sunny day to spend on our boat. Afterwards then, I’d have a marvelous excuse to make a nice pot of soup. </p>
<p>Here in Florida, October usually means the insanely hot summer weather eases a bit. Not as pleasantly cool as in other places, but enough to where you know the difference. </p>
<p>The most interesting effect of October for me is all the memories that this time of year conjures up. It is intriguing to me how certain sensory inputs can trigger certain memories. A cool crisp autumn day, the way oil paint smells, or the colors painted on a canvas. </p>
<p>Hah! See, I actually did have a point to all this rambling. The colors and patterns in my paintings often stir memories for me, and I expect for others as well. Sometimes, I see my art as “seasoning for your soul”. In the final analysis, all we have in this life is memories, and, I hope that my work, at least sometimes, helps to trigger warm, happy memories, which you can savor on a cool fall day. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>What&#8217;s shakin’ at Rodzart 10-01-2010</p>
<p>Hi Folks.  Happy weekend! I hope everyone has had a good week and a good weekend so far! This week we finished two paintings for you.</p>
<p>The first new painting for this week is 18 X 24 inch acrylic on canvas, which I entitled <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10082t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Expression 1082"><br />”Expression 1082”. </p>
<p>Now, on the surface this looks like just another line painting on a black background.<br />
However, I did one interesting little this with this canvas. I intentionally blurred the paint running across the horizontal center of the painting.<br />
Why? I suppose I could plead insanity on this one, but instead I’ll just tell you that it draws your attention to the painting, and makes you feel like “something’s strange” about this painting. </p>
<p>While I don’t intend to make a habit of this, I thought it was kind of a neat effect. </p>
<p>The next one for this week is the oil on paper I mentioned last week. It’s a 14 X 20 inch oil on watercolor paper, which is called <br /> <img src="http://www.rodzart.com/paintings/abstract/10083t.jpg" width=250 border="0" alt="Expression 1083"><br />”Expression 1083”. I rather like the way the colors play off each other in this painting. </p>
<p>Since it’s an oil painting, it’s going to take another week or so to dry, at which point I plan to offer it on eBay for maybe $25.00 plus shipping. I kind of figure that since this is an experimental technique, I’ll let this one go at a much lower price than I usually would. That way, if the paper rots away in a year or two you’re not out too much.</p>
<p>I don’t really have a rant this week, but I would like to bid a fond good-bye to Tony Curtis. He’ll be sadly missed and fondly remembered. </p>
<p>If you happen to be in the Brandon area, please remember that I’ve got six paintings hanging in “The Art of Hair” salon at 10963 Causeway Blvd., in Brandon. So, I hope you’ll drop by and check them out, and maybe get some great hair styling while you’re them.</p>
<p>If you’ve got a few bucks to spare, how about spending them on Haiti. There are a lot of good programs going on, my two favorites are, as always, Doctors without borders, they’ve got a link below. Also, <a href="http://www.clintonbushhaitifund.org/">The Clinton-Bush Haiti fund</a>. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>What&#8217;s shakin’ at Rodzart 09-24-2010</p>
<p>Hi Folks.  Happy (Belated) Friday! I hope everyone has had a good week, and a good weekend coming up. This week we spent most of our time stretching and priming canvas, and experimenting with some work on paper. So, this wasn’t the most productive of weeks, but I did learn how to prime paper for oil painting, which may prove very useful in the next few months.</p>
<p>Unfortunately we didn’t have anything ready to photograph this week, but there’s some interesting stuff coming up next week. One of the experiments we did was to prime a sheet of watercolor paper with 2 coats of white gesso and 2 coats of white acrylic paint. This is pretty much the same procedure I use on canvas. </p>
<p>The interesting thing is that we’re doing an oil painting on the paper.  Yeah I know oil on paper isn’t anything new, but it is for me, and I’m hoping that with the use of acrylic gesso and primers the image should have fairly good archival qualities. Since the image is essentially sitting of a sheet of acrylic, I think the painting should be able to be remounted on to a different surface after the paper decomposes. My grandchildren’s kids will have to worry about that I guess, I just paint’em.</p>
<p>Ok folks, here comes the rant of the week…lol.</p>
<p>So, am I the only one who’s getting totally fed up with politicians, and yes the second you run for office you’re a politician; slinging mud at each other. If you translate all the rhetoric into English, what you get is “vote for me because the other guy is a bigger bastard than me”.  As usual, it looks like all we have is a bunch of corporate stooges trying to get into office so the bosses can loot the treasury. It’s a pretty pathetic choice we have this year.</p>
<p>While I’m on the subject, beware of any politician who says he’ll run government like a business. Remember, the purpose of government is to serve, protect and defend the long-term welfare of the people. The purpose of business is to cheat and exploit workers in order to obtain a short-term profit. The corporate bosses do not care about you in the least, and don’t really care if you have a job or not. All they care about is the size of their next bonus. </p>
<p>I don’t know what the rest of you may choose, but for me, I’m sticking with President Obama!</p>
<p>End of rant.</p>
